The Weirdest Thing You'll Want in 2011

Much to the mortification of two of my friends, I have spent the last week sending a barrage of texts about my new obsession with the "scarily practical" Period Tracker App developed by GP Apps for the iPhone.  Almost all of us within a certain age range have to deal with this little downside of being a woman, but how our bodies are affected by this little... "visitor"... differs for all of us and differs at different times in the same woman's life.  Some women have "visitors" that only show up every once in awhile or are so quiet and polite they don't change things in their "houses" one bit.  Others have "visitors" that are unwanted guests that destroy everything in the "house" and wreck their lives and just keep coming back to visit (I like to refer to these as "monsters" instead of "visitors").  Wouldn't it be nice if, whether you have a polite "visitor" or a destructive "monster", you could plan for it in the way that you plan for an upcoming meeting at work with a difficult client?

Enter the "Period Tracker" App, reviewed by Geek Sugar in June 2009.  Currently, in the Healthcare & Fitness category in the iTunes App Store, the Deluxe version is #5 on the list of top paid apps and the Lite version is #8 on the list of top free apps.  There is a reason that, almost 2 years after its introduction, this app is still popular with female iPhone users.  It helps to track everything from the timing of acne breakouts to weight fluctuations throughout the month to mood cycles to the length and number of days of your cycle.  You can password your information and get your guy the Period Tracker Companion for Men app that syncs with it to tell him when to be nice to you or buy you flowers.

My very, very good friend's description that this "weird" app is "scarily practical" is right on target.  I mean, how many times have you thought about having a nice cuddly night with your honey that might lead somewhere only to be surprised that your reproductive organs have other ideas?  Plus, for anyone trying (or trying NOT) to conceive, it also tracks the likely days of fertility and the day of ovulation.  If you want to learn more on how it works, someone posted this little preview of it on YouTube.

Dealing with our bodies hasn't been so easy since before Eve got us into this mess back in the Garden of Eden in the first place!

*For those without an iPhone interested in something similar, Geek Sugar recommended this free website.
